You see: which URLs return 404, where they come from (an internal broken link, an external link, an old URL from the index, a click from a newsletter), how often, and what grew sharply after a release or migration. We build a prioritized list (by frequency and source) and send an alert on a spike. Honestly about the essence: this is detection and prioritization, NOT fixing — we do not fix links, set up redirects or create pages for you; remediation (fix the link, set a 301, restore the page) is done by your team or by us separately. And honestly: not every 404 is a problem; for intentionally deleted pages a 404 (or 410) is normal, and blanketing everything with redirects is harmful — we help tell harmful 404s (on live links, with traffic, on important old URLs) from harmless ones. Coverage depends on the source: logs show real hits, but without log access we rely on crawling, which sees links but not all real traffic. Someone must react to the alert and the list.
