Multi-currency display

Multi-currency display is showing prices in the buyer’s currency: a visitor from another country sees prices in a familiar currency. This is the storefront, not the payment — the charge goes in your base currency. And honestly about the approximate rate.

Multi-currency display — overview

Multi-currency display — price, timeline & scope

Multi-currency display is showing prices in several currencies right on the storefront: by the visitor’s country or through a currency switcher, a person sees an approximate price in familiar money, without doing the math in their head. We connect a rate source, auto-detection and currency choice, rounding rules and substituting the currency in the catalog, product pages and cart. Importantly and honestly, and this is the key difference: this is display, not real payment in the currency. At payment the charge goes in your base (accounting) currency, and the conversion is done by the buyer’s bank at its own rate — so the final amount for them may differ from the displayed one, depending on the buyer’s bank rates and fees. That is why we mark the displayed rate as approximate, without promising “exactly this much will be charged”. If you need to actually charge in the buyer’s currency and receive the funds in yours — that is a different, more complex service, “currency conversion at payment”, and we will advise what you really need. We take rates from a source and update them periodically — this is a storefront reference price, not a real-time exchange quote. Also about rounding: after conversion prices look ugly (for example, 1037.46) — we set up rounding rules to keep the storefront tidy, but note that rounding shifts the price slightly. Accounting, receipts and the invoice stay in your base currency. If almost all buyers are from one country, a price in a single currency is already clear to them, and the service most likely is not needed; we will honestly say so. Picture this: a guest from Germany comes in and sees prices in euros instead of rubles — it is immediately clear to them whether it is expensive, and they are more willing to stay; they pay in the usual way. The base price starts from 25,000 ₽; it depends on the number of currencies, the platform and the rounding rules. This is a starting price for standard platforms; a complex or custom case we estimate separately, with no surprises.

Problems we solve

  • Foreigners see prices in rubles and do not understand whether it is expensive — they leave to do the math.
  • You need to show prices in a currency but not complicate the actual payment.
  • You do not know where to take rates from and how to round converted prices.
  • You are afraid to promise an exact amount and mislead the buyer.

FAQ

  • Will the buyer pay exactly the amount they see?

Not necessarily to the cent. This is a display of a reference price in their currency; the charge goes in your base currency, and their bank converts at its own rate — so the result may differ, depending on their bank’s rates and fees. That is why we mark the displayed rate as approximate and do not promise “exactly this much”. If you need payment in their currency itself — that is a separate service, “currency conversion at payment”.

  • How is this different from conversion at payment?

Here — only showing prices in a currency so the buyer understands; the real charge and your income stay in the base currency. Conversion at payment is when the client also pays in their currency, while you receive in yours; it is more complex and more expensive. We will advise what you really need and will not sell anything extra.

  • Do we need this?

If buyers come from different countries and prices in rubles confuse them — yes, showing the currency lowers the barrier. If the audience is from one country — unlikely, and we will not push it. This is an inexpensive storefront improvement, not a payment integration.
