Pause subscriptions

We implement the ability to pause a subscription: temporarily suspend payment and access instead of full cancellation, when the customer does not need it now or cannot afford it. Honestly upfront and fundamentally: the pause must be REAL and easy, not a fake trap or a way to hinder cancellation (we do NOT use dark patterns); a pause retains those with a TEMPORARY reason, not those dissatisfied with the product; and it is not a return guarantee. Essentially this is the subscription implementation of the same honest pause as in the retention section (1001) — take one. We make a respectful pause, not 'anything to keep them'.

Pause subscriptions — overview

Pause subscriptions — price, timeline & scope

A subscription pause is the technical and product ability to temporarily suspend recurring payment and access (for a month, for a period) with a clear return to an active subscription. It is an honest alternative to full cancellation for a customer with a temporary reason (vacation, seasonality, a financial pause). Often offered within a save flow (1038). Honestly about duplication: this is essentially the same honest pause described in the retention section as 'pause options' (1001) — here the emphasis is on the subscription/billing implementation. Do not order both as different things; we do not breed duplicates for the invoice. Honestly about pause honesty, this is critical: a pause works as retention ONLY when it is real and respectful — easy to activate, with clear terms and an equally easy return or cancellation. A pause must not be turned into a dark pattern: a fake 'pause' instead of cancellation ('we will not let you go, we will pause you'), covert resumption of charges, hindered cancellation from pause. This destroys trust more than honest cancellation. A pause is an OPTION alongside cancellation, not a substitute for it. Honestly about 'whom it retains': a pause preserves the relationship with those whose reason is TEMPORARY (not needed now, later — yes). It will NOT retain those dissatisfied with the product or price — they do not need a pause, they need cancellation and a solution. Honestly about billing: a pause requires correct billing operation (1028) — stopping charges, a clear status, honest resumption with notification, no 'accidental' charges during the pause. Honestly about 'no return guarantee': someone who paused may not return — it is reducing friction and preserving the possibility, not a guarantee. Honestly about the effect: it preserves part of the subscribers with temporary reasons and softens churn, but it is not a guarantee. Honestly about access: subscription billing (1028), product support for the 'pause' status are needed. An important boundary: this is a subscription pause (billing); pause in retention — 1001 (the same meaning); save flow — 1038; downgrade — 1002. Picture this: instead of 'either pay or leave entirely' — an honest pause with an easy return and easy cancellation. The base price starts from 30,000 ₽ (depends on billing).

Problems we solve

  • The customer has 'pay or cancel' — no pause.
  • Temporary reasons (vacation, money) lead to full cancellation.
  • A past 'pause' was fake or hindered cancellation — loss of trust.
  • Billing does not support correct suspension and resumption.

FAQ

  • Can we pause instead of cancelling to retain?

No, categorically, honestly: a pause is an honest OPTION alongside cancellation, not a substitute. A fake 'pause' instead of cancellation, covert resumption of charges, hindered cancellation from pause are dark patterns that destroy trust more than honest cancellation and are often illegal. We make a pause with cancellation as easy as activation. If they want to leave — they must be able to leave.

  • Will a pause retain a dissatisfied customer?

No, honestly: a pause helps those whose reason is TEMPORARY (vacation, seasonality, a financial pause). It will not retain someone dissatisfied with the product or price — they need not a pause but a solution or honest cancellation. Slipping a pause in instead of an answer to dissatisfaction is useless and irritating. We honestly separate for whom a pause really suits.

  • How does this differ from 'pause options' in retention (1001)?

It is essentially the same, honestly: the same honest pause, here with an emphasis on the subscription/billing implementation. Do not order both as different things — choose one. We do not breed duplicates for the invoice but will set up the pause once so it works correctly both in billing and in retention logic.
