A sitemap.xml audit is a one-time narrow check of your sitemap for search crawlers: whether the sitemap exists and is accessible, the correctness and validity of the XML format, what URLs are inside and in what state (do they return 200 or give errors and redirects, are any accidentally blocked from indexing, are there conflicts with canonical), freshness (lastmod tags, whether there are long-deleted pages), compliance with limits (up to 50,000 URLs and 50 MB per file, whether an index sitemap of several files is needed), whether there are junk and service URLs, and whether the sitemap is submitted to Yandex.Webmaster and Google Search Console and what the statuses are there. The goal is to put the sitemap in order so crawlers find the needed pages and do not waste time on unnecessary ones. Honestly about the main point: this is diagnosis, not setup and not a guarantee of indexing or ranking growth. A sitemap helps the search engine discover pages faster, but it is only a hint: the crawler itself decides what and when to index, and a URL being in the sitemap does not guarantee getting into the index or to the top. We cannot promise "we will index everything" or "+rankings". It is a snapshot in time. Access to Webmaster and Search Console increases accuracy (statuses and crawl errors are visible); without it — a check of the file itself and public data. What you get: a report with sitemap errors and problems by priority and recommendations (what to remove, what to add, what to fix, how to organize it); implementing the fixes is separate work, often on the CMS or developer side. If the site is small (a few pages), we will honestly say a separate sitemap audit is excessive — a basic check is enough. Picture this: instead of "the sitemap seems to be there" you learn that half the URLs in it return a 301 redirect, there are pages with noindex and no up-to-date lastmod, and the file itself is not submitted to Webmaster. • My site is small — do I need a separate sitemap audit?

  Probably not. For a few pages a basic check within a technical SEO audit is enough. A separate sitemap audit is more useful for large sites and catalogs with thousands of URLs — we will honestly advise.
