A crowdfunding platform is a site where authors raise money for projects: they create a campaign with a funding goal, a deadline and a description, offer rewards for different amounts, and backers pledge funds. The platform shows the funding progress, collects payments and takes a commission. For example, with an all-or-nothing model: an author wants to raise 500,000 ₽ in 30 days — if less is collected by the deadline, the money is returned to backers; if the goal is reached, it is charged and goes to the author minus your commission. Crowdfunding comes in different types: donation-based, reward-based (a reward for a pledge) and investment-based (for a share or income). Donation and reward models are simpler; investment crowdfunding is regulated separately in Russia. Unlike a marketplace, where people buy a finished product and payment goes through immediately (see the “Marketplace from scratch” service), here people fund a project that does not exist yet, and the money is held until the goal is reached. The base price starts from 400,000 ₽ for the IT development; the total depends on the funding model, roles and integrations.

• How is a crowdfunding platform different from a marketplace?

  On a marketplace people buy a finished product from a seller, and payment goes through immediately. In crowdfunding, backers fund a project that does not exist yet in exchange for a reward or a share, and the money is held until the goal is reached and returned if it is not. It is about raising funds for a project, not selling goods.

• How do payments work and what about the law?

  We connect a payment service: with all-or-nothing, funds are reserved and charged only if the campaign reaches its goal by the deadline; otherwise they are returned. Note: investment crowdfunding (for a share or income) in Russia requires the status of an investment platform operator in the Central Bank register (Federal Law 259-FZ) — we implement such a model only for existing operators. Licensing and registration are handled by the client; we build the IT platform. Donation and reward models are simpler.

• How much does it cost and what does the price depend on?

  The base price starts from 400,000 ₽ for the IT development, and the final cost is usually higher. It depends on the funding model, roles, settlement method and integrations; legal requirements for the payment or investment model may increase the total. We calculate it after you describe the model.
