Edge experiments

We set up experiments at the edge — at the CDN/edge-function level (e.g. Cloudflare Workers, Vercel Edge): the variant is assigned before the page loads, close to the user. This gives tests without flicker and without delay, not loading the browser. Honestly upfront: this is an advanced, engineering-complex approach for specific cases, not a guarantee of conversion growth; and it requires edge infrastructure, billed separately.

Edge experiments — overview

Edge experiments — price, timeline & scope

Edge experiments is an engineering project: we implement variant assignment and response rewriting at the CDN's edge functions, before the page is served to the user, with consistent allocation and metric collection. Honestly about the value and niche, this is key: the edge gives speed and no flicker (the variant is ready before render) and offloads the browser — useful for high-traffic and speed-sensitive projects; but it is an ADVANCED approach for specific cases, not the default — most tasks are fine with client-side or server-side tests, and we will not push edge. Honestly about infrastructure and cost: an edge platform (Cloudflare Workers/Vercel Edge etc.) and infrastructure access are needed; these are ongoing costs to the provider, SEPARATELY from our work, plus operational complexity. Honestly about the result: like any experiment, edge validates a hypothesis and does NOT guarantee growth — 'no difference' or a worsening is possible; traffic, significance, discipline (no 'peeking') are needed. Honestly about data: correct tagging is mandatory (garbage in, garbage out). Honestly about the essence: this is infrastructure and running tests, NOT implementation and NOT guaranteed growth; decisions are yours. An important boundary: these are edge experiments, not server-side (on the backend — separate) and not client-side A/B (simpler — separate); the level choice depends on the task, and it is often simpler to start with a regular A/B. If you have no edge infrastructure or the task is simple, the edge is overkill — we say so honestly. Picture this: instead of 'the test lags and flickers on a slow device' the variant is ready instantly at the user — where it is really needed. The base price starts from 30,000 ₽ per project; it depends on the platform and complexity (edge infrastructure — separate).

Problems we solve

  • Client-side tests flicker and lag on slow devices.
  • Speed is critical but the test adds browser delay.
  • You need to assign a variant before the page loads.
  • High load, regular approaches cannot cope.

What's included in the Edge experiments service

  • Variant assignment at edge functions
  • Consistent allocation and response rewriting
  • Metric collection and guardrail control
  • An assessment: is edge justified or is A/B/server-side enough
  • Integration with your edge platform
  • An honest significance analysis (including 'no difference')
  • Documentation and access
  • Reviewing results with you

What you get

  • Tests without flicker and delay, close to the user
  • Less browser load, suitable for speed projects
  • Correct experiment data
  • A base for decisions (implementation and growth — separately)

How the work goes: steps

  • We assess whether edge is needed; collect access to the edge platform/infrastructure
  • We implement assignment and metric collection at the edge; launch
  • We analyze significance, give an honest conclusion

Why PDV Expert

FAQ

  • Do edge experiments guarantee a conversion increase?

No. It is about speed and no flicker, but an experiment still validates a hypothesis rather than guaranteeing improvement — 'no difference' or a worsening is possible. Traffic and significance are needed.

  • Do I really need edge?

Often no. Edge is justified for high-traffic and speed projects; most are fine with client-side or server-side tests. We honestly assess and will not push edge if it is overkill.

  • Is edge infrastructure included in the price?

No. The platform (Cloudflare Workers/Vercel Edge etc.) is a cost to the provider, separate from our work, plus operational complexity. Without ready edge infrastructure the approach may not be worthwhile.
