Page depth audit

We check how "deep" your pages sit — how many clicks from the homepage it takes to reach them. Pages that are too deep (4+ clicks) are crawled worse by robots, indexed more slowly and receive less internal link equity. We find such pages and give a plan for bringing the important ones closer to the top. Honestly — depth is one of the factors, not a verdict: the audit finds the problem but does not rebuild the structure itself and does not guarantee rankings.

Page depth audit — overview

Page depth audit — price, timeline & scope

A page depth audit is a one-time check of how "deep" your site's pages are hidden: how many clicks via internal links from the homepage it takes to reach them. We build a depth map, find important pages that sit too deep (4+ clicks is often considered a problem, especially for commercial and priority pages), look at how navigation, menus, internal linking and pagination are arranged, whether there are "long corridors" with no branches, and suggest how to make the structure flatter — bring the needed pages closer to the homepage via menus, link blocks, hubs and internal linking. The goal is for the important things to be easy to reach for both the user and the robot. Honestly about the main point: this is diagnosis, not a structure rebuild and not a guarantee of ranking growth. Depth is only one of the signals: on large sites some pages inevitably sit deeper, and that is normal; depth by itself is not a "verdict" — what matters more is whether the priority pages are easy to reach. And what counts as "too deep" depends on the site's size and type, so there is a share of common sense in the assessment, not a hard threshold. For completeness, access to the code/CMS or the ability to crawl the whole site is needed; an external crawl without access gives only a partial depth map — we will note that honestly. It is a snapshot in time. What you get: a report with a depth map and a prioritized list of important pages sitting too deep, and recommendations for bringing them up; rebuilding the navigation and internal linking is separate work. If the site is small and flat, we will honestly say depth is not a problem. Picture this: instead of "everything seems reachable" you learn that half the product cards sit 5–6 clicks from the homepage because you can only reach them by paging through long pagination. The base price starts from 7,000 ₽; it depends on the site size.

Problems we solve

  • Important pages are hidden deep and hard to reach.
  • A large catalog, and some products are many clicks away.
  • You suspect deep pages are poorly indexed.
  • Before reworking the structure you want to understand the current picture.

What's included in the Page depth audit service

  • A depth map: how many clicks from the homepage each page is reachable in
  • Important pages sitting too deep (by priority)
  • The structure of navigation, menus and breadcrumbs
  • Internal linking and "long corridors" with no branches
  • Pagination and filters as a cause of excessive depth
  • Recommendations for making the structure flatter and bringing the needed pages up
  • A realistic depth-threshold assessment for your site type and size
  • A prioritized report with the map and recommendations

What you get

  • Clear understanding of which important pages sit too deep
  • A depth map of the whole site
  • A plan to bring priority pages closer to the homepage (implementation is separate)
  • Understanding where depth really hurts and where it is normal

How the work goes: steps

  • We clarify the priority pages and structure and collect access (to code/CMS where possible)
  • We crawl the site, build a depth map and identify too-deep important pages
  • We prepare a report with the map and recommendations and review it with you

FAQ

  • What depth is considered bad?

There is no hard threshold. Pages 4+ clicks from the homepage are often considered a problem, especially commercial and priority ones, but for a large catalog some pages are inevitably deeper — and that is normal. What matters is not the number itself but whether the needed pages are easy to reach; we assess that for your site type and size.

  • Will rankings grow after the audit?

The audit itself — no. Depth is only one of the factors; reducing depth helps the crawling and equity of important pages, but rankings depend on a lot. We find the problem and give a plan, but we do not promise "+rankings", and rebuilding the structure is separate work.

  • How is this different from an orphan pages analysis?

Orphan pages are those with no internal links at all. A depth audit is about pages that do have links but take too long to reach (many clicks). These are different structural problems, although related.
